Materials for Metal 3D Printing
Stainless Steel 316L* *Similar to X2CrNiMo17-12-2(ISO) / 316L(AISI)

Features

Austenitic stainless steels, as represented by 18Cr-8Ni, are the great anti-corrosion materials which are versatile and are used the most among the stainless steels.
Containing 18+% of chromium which is required for passivation, it shows remarkable corrosion resistance in the atmosphere, fresh water, neutral salt, organic acid, nitric acid (a powerful oxidant), alkali, and others.
It also has high-temperature oxidation resistance, which means that it is usable under a wide range of environmental conditions.
This corrosion resistance is maintained by the passive films on the surface. The loss of passivity results in localized corrosion.
SUS316L is made by putting less carbon(C) and more nickel(Ni), with the addition of molybdenum(Mo), to SUS304 which is represented by austenitic stainless steel 18Cr-8Ni. SUS316L has strength and corrosion resistance at high temperatures, while having less risks of work-hardening as it contains less carbon than SUS316.
