Features

Precipitation hardening stainless steels are steels which obtained increased strength by precipitation hardening technique, in addition to great corrosion resistance which stainless steels already have.
The existing high-strength stainless steels have been either the high-carbon martensitic stainless steels made by hardning and tempering techniques, or the austenitic stainless steels hardened by cold working. Both have a limited range of applications.
Precipitation hardening stainless steels are dispersion strengthened by simple solution-to-aging heat treatment which evenly pricipitates the secondary phase particles.
Some of the precipitation-hardened martensitic steels are considered especially important as the tensile strength they show can be as high as 2,000N/mm2, and also have a high fracture toughness in corrosive environments. The precipitation-hardened austenitic steels are useful for their heat resistance at high temperatures.
Japan Industrial Standard (JIS) has 4 categories for the heat treatments which are H900, H1025, H1075, and H1150. The smaller the number is, the higher the hardness is.
